Page 9:
Instantly he fell silent.
A noise in the corridor jostled his mind back from sorrowful remembrance. Quickly, he tucked the picture away, hiding it beneath his rags. His mind couldn’t fathom what they would do if he were caught with a photo.
Page 10:
Keys jingled and neglected hinges squealed in protest. Then the screaming began.
He no longer covered his ears as he once had. He was beyond trying to hide his mind in joyful thoughts, as this had proven futile.
