Steinhauer family photoshoot
October 19th, 2010Back in September I had the opportunity to photograph my wife’s brother’s family. We met at Old Mill State Park near Newfolden, Minnesota and spent about an hour taking pictures and wandering around. There is a small swimming pond there that is fed by flowing wells. At one end of it there is a small dam that lets the excess water flow off into the river beyond. By the time we went, the wells had been capped, so the water was no longer flowing, but the dam has a nice rock structure as you can see here.

There were a few wildflowers left on the property, amazingly enough. Kira, who is about 3 1/2 enjoyed them. Once she found them, she carried one around for the rest of the shoot.

There was this very cool gnarled old tree, full of texture. The best part is that the crook is low enough to get up to, so I had Mike climb up there, without hesitation I might add, and hold Kira. Sarah stayed on the ground with Levi which helped with the composition and flow of the image.

There is no shortage of love still in this family after eight years of marriage. Without even prompting, Sarah jumped into Mikes arms for a kiss.

Whenever I do a family shoot, I try to get a closeup shot of everyone individually. Here are the results.

Overall, the shoot was a definite success, despite varying light conditions. The clouds would come and go, but the photographs turned out nice regardless, I think.
