Web design for photographers; a critique for Anthony Phung aka @APhungFoto

Anthony used my critique request form to ask for a critique not exactly of his work but of the way he shows his work, namely, his APhungFoto website.

Home page

The first thing I notice is the nice clean design. I like how big the images are, though one problem with this is that part of the photo is obscured “below the fold.” What this means is that I need to scroll down to see the entire photo. One way this could be improved is to decrease the size of the header. I like the header, especially if it is actually a personalized signature. I am guessing it is not, though? Regardless, it looks personal. Though “Foto” in papyrus does look tacked on. Read the rest of this entry »

Zombie illustrations and a print review

Zombie Illustration

Today I have to show a set of zombie illustrations I made throughout the year. These are made for a private event as the invitation poster to give to a select few friends. I wanted to demonstrate first the posters then go in a little deeper and review the two different printing companies I used, shutterfly.com and docucopies.com.

‘Cause fairies wear tutus.

5Pinkfairies logo detail
I recently had the fortune of working with a local small businesswoman and friend, Lori Lindholm to design a logo for her Newfolden, Minnesota based business. Lori primarily creates tutus for young girls. Having five girls herself, she is the perfect person to run a business such as this and I wanted to give her a great logo to match. You have to keep learning.

I believe I have written on this topic both here and here to some degree before, but it is imperative in nearly any profession that I can think of. Never stop learning your trade. Another great giveaway!

I was approached once again by the great folks over at Giveaway Blogs about doing a print giveaway. Up this month is a set of 100 postcards from Uprinting.com for one lucky recipient. Unfortunately, this is only available to US residents over the age of 18.

So what exactly can you get? It’s 100 glossy 5” x 7” 14pt Cardstock postcards, printed on the front side only. These would work great as postcards, advertising mailers, promotional pieces, invitations, you name it. I’ve had Uprinting do a large format poster for me last time I had a giveaway and that looked good, so I would expect these postcards would look good also.
For an example of what you can get, here is an image from Uprinting:
