techWALK logo process

Not long ago I completed a logo and identity system for a local Thief River Falls, MN business called techWALK. techWALK is run by Paul Mooney, who contacted me for the design work. Click here if you would like to hire me for graphic design work. I quickly sent him my logo design questionnaire so that I could get a better idea of what he required and what his business entails. techWALK is a computer repair and consultancy with no previous branding. His request was that the logo show traits of Patience, intelligence, friendly, understanding, and loyal.

How I got urinated on during a photo shoot

I don’t generally consider myself a newborn photographer, but as my son was recently born, I thought I would take the opportunity. I don’t want this to just be a post showing off my new child, however, so I am going to explain a little about the process I went through and the messes I got into.

Idea Bulb

Here is a photo idea I had that didn’t quite pull through. I’d like to know what you, my dear readers, think (add your comments at the bottom). I’ll write my thoughts below.

The Idea

Stanley Logo Design

Stanley Logo
My father will soon be taking his Master Electricians license and thus be opening a new small business. To be prepared for that, I created a logo and business card for him. This post will cover the logo design process and my thoughts throughout the project.
To start with, he was going to need a business name. One obvious choice would be to use his name as many single person contractors do. I started with his full name, but soon decided upon just his first name as this gives a more familiar and approachable appearance. A single name is also easier to remember and since his name is Stanley it can give a subtle subconscious reminder of the tool brand as well. Added to this is his title Master Electrician, which puts forth confidence in his ability and affirms the quality of service.

Prisoner – the process

Prisoner Process
Now that the Prisoner graphic novel is finished on here, I would like to fill you in on the process I used to create the comic’s illustrations. And again, if you haven’t visited the author, Dean’s website yet, you really should. Now, I should say, this process is by no means the ‘correct’ way and certainly isn’t the traditional way, it is just the way that I happened to go through it. I very likely would change some things in the future, if I happen to do any more comics. And by the way, if you enjoyed this comic and would like to see more (or really hated and never want me to do it again, goshdarndit!), let me know through the comments at the bottom of this post, or send me a message. If you want to skip past all the wordiness, here is the link to the video demonstrating my process.
