Cold!
I am obviously dreaming of summer. I was going through some old photos that I had not yet processed and found this one of stormy weather where the light was shining through onto the woods near my house. The color was quite intense. So, this is just a quick post to show how I wish it still was. The color is because it was in the fall, October 12th was when it was taken.

The colors collide

Chris Lane / photography / / 0 Comments

This was the sight I saw as I stepped out my door the other morning. A very impressive sight if you ask me! I ran back in to the house and grabbed my camera, whether I would be late for my day job or not. I took a quick shot and put the camera away. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it on the computer. This photograph is straight out of camera, meaning I did no editing to it whatsoever (actually I did very minor sharpening, but that’s it).
I liked this one so much I thought I would give it away as a free desktop wallpaper photo that you can download. Click on the name of the photo below to go to the full 1920 x 1200 wallpaper size.

Snow on film

Chris Lane / photography / / 0 Comments

I still occasionally shoot film. I love the mystery of it, the imperfections of it, the warmth and feel of film. I love analog. I still use my Minolta X-700 that I have had for many years to shoot 35mm. This winter I shot a number of scenes that I would like to share. These are generally unedited, though I did some minor dodging and burning. These are things I could do in a tradition dark room, though in this case I did the edits in photoshop. I intend on having a traditional darkroom in my studio, but that will be a few years down the line.
This is a repost from a fellow blog I co-run called No Megapixel, that is exclusively for film photography.

Enjoy the photographs and as always, let me know what you think.

Sunset Over River

Chris Lane / photography, process / / 2 Comments

This is a bonus photo for this week, as I won’t be working on a long form blog post.
This is an HDR shot from my backyard. My wife and I had just gone for a canoe ride on the river here and I loved the sunset, so when we were finished I grabbed my camera, tripod, and set out to try an HDR. I took 11 exposures ranging from 1/400 to 1/8000 at f/3.5 and ISO 400.

Shot with Canon 40D with EF28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 USM set at 28mm. I used the auto-bracketing feature multiple times. HDR put together in Photomatix with some minor editing in Photoshop.
